16 top international choirs meet in the Allgäu at Whitsun

The selection was difficult, the field was large, but now the festival choirs have finally been chosen. Following in-depth discussions, the festival committee has decided: 16 top international choirs will meet in the Allgäu region at Whitsun to compete against each other and sing together in one of the world's most renowned choral competitions. At the 19th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf from June 6 to 10, 2025, the choirs will be able to show what choral music has to offer today in an exciting competition and extraordinary concerts. As patron, the Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder as patron.
16 outstanding choirs from the Philippines, Indonesia, the USA, Mexico, Sweden, Italy, Turkey, Georgia, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Germany are expected to take part. The international choirs will not only compete against each other, but will also give concerts together. Five parallel concerts will take place from June 7-9 in Altenstadt, Munich, Kempten, Irsee, Waal, Augsburg, Memingen, Füssen, Kaufbeuren, Polling, Isny, Bad Hindelang, Nesselwang, Wildpoldsried and Marktoberdorf.
The competition will open on June 6 at 7.30 pm with the Zürcher Singakademie under the direction of Florian Helgath and the presentation of the participating choirs. On June 7 and 8, the two competition rounds will be open to the public in the mornings and afternoons. Traditionally, on Whit Monday, June 9, the Singschoppen with competition choirs will take place in the tent at MODEON, followed for the first time by an Open Singing. On June 10, the competition awards ceremony will take place at 5 p.m., followed by the final choir concert at 7:30 p.m., both at MODEON Marktoberdorf.
MODfestivals has always relied on host families in Marktoberdorf and the surrounding area to realize the competition. Host parents are being sought again this year. If you can host at least two singers for five nights over the Whitsun holidays and offer breakfast, you can be a host parent. In return for this invaluable help, the host parents will receive two concert vouchers and a program booklet for each guest they host. You can register on the website at www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org/de/gasteltern-anmeldung.
Tickets go on sale on April 2, but you can already order the “Early Bird” festival pass at a special price until March 31. The festival pass and further information are available at www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org.
