Mother's Day, May 11, 2025: Transformation concert with the Windsbach Boys' Choir

To kick off this year's 19th Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition 2025, MODfestivals is organizing a concert with the Windsbach Boys' Choir under the direction of Ludwig Böhne on Mother's Day, 11 May 2025. The concert begins at 2:30 pm in the Marktoberdorf parish church of St. Martin. A second part follows after a short walk together with the choir in the Richard-Wengenmeier-Saal of the Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf. Following the concert, MODfestivals invites you to enjoy coffee and cake in the foyer of the Richard Wengenmeier Hall as usual. Admission is free. Donations are requested.

The Windsbach Boys' Choir was founded in 1946. Since then, more than 1,500 boys and young men have sung in the choir. With up to 70 performances in Bavaria, Germany and abroad, the choir delights thousands of concert-goers every year. Today, it is considered one of the most prestigious boys' choirs in the world. Sacred music is the musical focus. The repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to modern music. Numerous CD productions as well as radio and television appearances have won over music critics and audiences alike. The Windsbach Boys' Choir has up to 130 singers.

Ludwig Böhme was appointed artistic director of the Windsbach Boys' Choir in 2022. He spent his childhood in the St. Thomas Boys' Choir and then studied choral conducting at the Leipzig University of Music and Performing Arts. In 1999, he founded the Calmus Ensemble with other former St. Thomas Boys Choir members, which has developed into one of the world's leading vocal ensembles. Böhme has conducted the Josquin des Préz Chamber Choir and the Leipzig Synagogal Choir.

On Saturday, May 10, the Windsbach Boys' Choir will perform at 7:30 pm in the Church of St. Peter & Paul in Oberammergau. The concerts are a cooperation between MODfestivals and Oberammergau Kultur. After the Mother's Day concert, tickets for the 19th Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition can be purchased in advance.
