Ramona Wegenast will become the new managing director in Oberammergau
Ramona Wegenast will be leaving MODfestivals e.V. on June 1, 2024, to take on the role of managing director in Oberammergau. There, she will assume the management of the "Eigenbetrieb Oberammergau Kultur," specifically responsible for organizing the Passion Play. Since January 2018, she has been the managing director of MODfestivals e.V., overseeing its two festivals, the "International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf" and "Musica Sacra International."
"The cultural manager, started in Marktoberdorf after working for ten years at the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart. 'Parting ways with the festivals is difficult for me - working with choirs and musicians from all over the world has become very dear to me. I will especially miss the team of staff and volunteers,' says Wegenast.
The 'International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf' and 'Musica Sacra International' were founded in 1986 and are internationally recognized as outstanding events in their field. Prof. Dr. Hans Jaskulsky, chairman of the MODfestivals association, states, 'Ramona Wegenast has set the bar very high for the work of our office in Marktoberdorf, precisely in the right place: only in this way can such a double festival be planned and organized professionally and innovatively. The MODfestivals owe a lot to Ramona Wegenast, not least a wonderful collaboration with the artistic directors, the MODfestivals board, the staff, and all participants!'
As the managing director of the 'Eigenbetrieb Oberammergau Kultur,' her primary focus will be on realizing the Passion Play. The Oberammergau Passion Play is the most famous of its kind worldwide. The Passion Play was first performed in 1634 as a fulfillment of a vow after the plague. Since 1680, the play has been held every ten years.
The 43-year-old cultural creator's previous areas of expertise align perfectly with her move to Oberammergau: choir, orchestra, and theater embedded in a religious context." "Musica Sacra International," taking place from May 17 to May 21, 2024, will be the final festival under her direction. However, she will remain a member of the association and will continue to attend its events as a visitor.
