International Masterclass for Choral Conducting with Conducting Competition
The 19th Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition has just come to a successful end, but the festival is not over yet. On Saturday, June 14, at 7 pm, the final highlight of the festival will be the closing concert of the International Masterclass for Choral Conducting with Conducting Competition at the Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf.
The Masterclass is aimed at international choral conductors who want to improve their skills and knowledge at a high level with outstanding experts. The participants had to apply with a video and go through several rounds. In the end, only four out of around 20 participants are allowed to conduct in the final concert. The best three choir conductors are then awarded a prize.
The high-ranking masterclass will be led by Georg Grün and Yuval Weinberg. Georg Grün is an internationally sought-after choral conductor and choral sound specialist. He founded the KammerChor Saarbrücken in 1990 and is still its artistic director today. From 2000 to 2013, Georg Grün held a professorship for choral conducting at the Mannheim University of Music. He has been a mentor of the Conducting Forum of the German Music Council since 2010 and was jury chairman of the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition from 2015 to 2019.
Yuval Weinberg is chief conductor of the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart and frequently works with leading ensembles throughout Europe. In 2017, he received the award for best conductor at the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition.
The participating choir at the 19th International Chamber Choir Competition, Lund University Academic Choir from Sweden, under the direction of Cecilia Martin-Löf, will be the studio choir. The choir took part in the 19th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf, where they were classified as “internationally very good” in performance level II. They will rehearse and perform works by Benjamin Britten, Anton Bruckner, Ulrika Emanuelsson and Max Reger, among others.
Tickets for the final concert can be purchased in advance at the Eselsohr Marktoberdorf bookshop, the service centers of the Allgäuer Zeitung, at all Eventim sales outlets and at www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org. Remaining tickets are available at the box office.
