Versatile supporting program in the tent and around MODEON Marktoberdorf
The fact that the best choirs in the world come together in one place to compete is remarkable. The fact that they give joint concerts is extraordinary. The fact that the international choral world has been coming to the Allgäu for one of the world's most renowned competitions for chamber choirs since 1989 is unique. The 19th Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition will take place from June 6 to 10, 2025 and offers both a musically exciting competition and exceptionally high-ranking concert events.
The competition will open on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 7.30 pm with the Zurich Sing-Akademie welcoming the participating choirs from all over the world to the MODEON Marktoberdorf. The artistic director of the Zürcher Sing-Akademie, Florian Helgath, has put together a very special concert program. Works from the Romantic period, the turn of the century and contemporary compositions interweave the quintessence of these different eras.Florian Helgath started out with the Regensburger Domspatzen, studied in Munich and won international conducting prizes.
Among other things, he was director of the Danish Radio Choir and has been a professor in Munich since 2024.Before the opening concert, you can listen to the Kippachtal alphorn players on the square in front of the MODEON from 6.30 pm.They have been around for 33 years and are the only group far and wide that consists almost exclusively of women, with the exception of “quota man” Thomas.
And after the opening concert, the atmosphere in the tent is also guaranteed. The Musikkapelle Geisenried traditionally presents a Bavarian evening for all choirs and guests.Their varied repertoire ranges from traditional Bavarian brass band music to concertante and symphonic brass band music. Admission to the tent is free.
Advance tickets are available from the Marktoberdorf bookshop Eselsohr, the service centers of the Allgäuer Zeitung, all Eventim sales outlets and at www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org. Any remaining tickets can be purchased at the box office in MODEON.
