20th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, 14–18 May 2027 · International Master Class in Choral Conducting to follow, 18–22 May 2027

Since 1989, the international choral community has gathered in Marktoberdorf every two years during the Pentecost holidays for one of the world's most renowned competitions for chamber choirs. In nineteen competitions to date, over 250 choirs from around 50 countries have showcased what choral music has to offer today through exciting competitions and extraordinary concerts. Both professional and lay audiences are consistently thrilled. The anniversary edition, the 20th Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition, will take place from 14 to 18 May 2027.

Twelve outstanding choirs from around the world are expected to participate. The international choirs will not only compete against one another but will also perform in joint concerts. These concerts will take place throughout the Allgäu region, as well as in Augsburg and Munich. The application process has already begun. Applications to participate in the 20th International Chamber Choir Competition in 2027 can be submitted, along with the necessary documents, at www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org until 31 October 2026. Admission decisions are made by the competition's artistic committee, which is composed of experienced figures from the international choral scene and also establishes the competition's content guidelines. Applications are accepted exclusively in the Mixed Chamber Choir category.

Following the competition, the International Master Class for Choral Conducting, featuring a conducting competition, will take place from 18 to 22 May 2027 at the Bavarian Music Academy in Marktoberdorf. The master class is aimed at experienced choral conductors who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge at a high level under the guidance of outstanding experts. The International Master Class for Choral Conducting will be led in 2027 by Anne Kohler (Germany) and Ragnar Rasmussen (Norway). One of the participating choirs from the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition will serve as the host choir.
