Since the beginning of 2020, the conditions for the international choral scene have changed dramatically due to the pandemic and the current energy and financial crisis. The effects are many: a slump in musical standards, loss of singers in many choirs and associations, lack of young musicians, lack of income, unwillingness to take on liabilities.

MODfestivals organises the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf every two years. We are also feeling the changes. In addition to increased costs, which continuously lead to a reduction in the number of participating choirs, we are struggling with no increase in funding, a recuced number of registrations, Expectations to decide things at such short hoitce that it becomes impossible to organise them, etc.

Panel Discussion

What's going on in the choral world? is also the title of the panel discussion in the MODEON hall on Sunday, 28 May 2023, from 17:30 to 19:00. The discussion will be moderated by Sonja Greiner (General Secretary of the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat).
