International Masterclass for Choral Conductors with a Conducting Competition

Masterclass
The International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf is known as one of the most renowned competitions for chamber choirs around the world. The Masterclass will take place after the competition. This way, musical impressions and experiences can feed into it.

Conducting competition
For the first time, the Masterclass will be organised as a conducting competition. There will be two selection stages. The winners of the competition will be selected at the final concert. (Prizes are yet to be announced)

Target group
The Masterclass is aimed at all choir conductors, who would like to improve their skills and knowledge on a high standard, with the help of distinguished experts. The participants should already have relevant experiences in conducting choirs.

Application
Those interested will be able to apply until the end of March 2022. Please hand in a music CV together with a video of yourself conducting a choir.

Masterclass contents

• Conducting techniques
• Vocal training
• Vocal and register coaching with the help of the Calmus ensemble. Working on a specific choral sound
• Intensive training with the musical pieces, which will have been prepared before the seminar
• Familiarisation of choral scores
• Contact to other choir conductors on an international level
• Presentation of what has been learned and selection of the winner of the competition at the final concert

You will be able to download the scores after your registration.

Language
The seminar will be held in English and German.

Course
A conducting audition will take place after arrival. Those who do not pass this stage will still be able to take part passively. A second selection process will be held on Thursday, 09.06. All those who pass this stage will take part in the final concert (Sunday 11am). The winners will receive a prize.

Arrival: Tuesday, 7. June 2022 at around 1pm (first meal: lunch)
Departure: Sunday, 12. June 2022 after the final concert (1pm)
Participants will have to organise their own travel at their own expense.

Costs Masterclass
5 days incl. seminar costs, full board and accommodation in a shared room (2 beds or more) at the Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf (single rooms potentially available at higher rate)

Active participants: 450 Euro / 380 Euro concession (students with identification)

Passive participants: 320 Euro / 280 Euro concession (students with identification) / If eliminated after the first selection round

Combi-offer International Masterclass and International Chamber Choir Competition
From the 3. – 7. June 2022 the 17. International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf will take place. In this renowned competition, choirs from around the world will compete in front of an international jury. Concerts and other events will complement the festival. The participation in the Masterclass can be booked in combination with a visit of the International Chamber Choir Competition.

Costs Combi-offer
4 days (during the competition) incl. accommodation in a shared room (2 beds or more) with breakfast, lunch together with the singers at the festival tent, festival pass (entry to all events):
