Cancellation of the russian Festino Chamber Choir - women's ensemble Sy'zan performs as a substitute at concerts

Due to the current political situation, the Festino Chamber Choir from St. Petersburg, Russia, unfortunately had to cancel their participation in this year's 17th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf 2022. As a result, the number of participating choirs has been reduced to seven. For the evening concerts, a high-quality replacement could be found in the form of the women's ensemble Sy'zan from Mannheim. At Whitsun, from 3 to 7 June, around 300 singers from six different countries will come to the Allgäu: choirs from the USA, Indonesia, South Africa, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Germany.

The eight singers of the women's ensemble Sy'zan met while studying at the Mannheim State University of Music and Performing Arts and founded the vocal ensemble [sy'zan] in 2013. The desire to experience and present a broad repertoire of vocal music for women's voices is always the focus for the singers: with the independent programmes "Images", "[sy'zan] in Wonderland" and "Nordisk" they perform mainly in south-western Germany. In the ensemble category of the "Jugend Kulturell" competition, [sy'zan] competed in the finals in Hamburg in 2015. In 2018, they took part in the German Choir Competition, where [sy'zan] won second prize in the vocal ensemble category and two special prizes for contemporary music and folk song interpretation. This year the women's vocal ensemble is producing its first CD together with the Rondeau label.
