THE JURY

The jury of the ICCC 2013 presents themselves

Jurymitglied: Silvana Vallesi

Silvana Vallesi

Born in Mendoza, Argentina, into a family of renowned musicians, she began her musical studies at the age of 8 by studying transverse flute with Professor Lars Nilsson (Sweden). She studied at the Music School of the Faculty of Arts of the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and obtained a degree in Choral Conducting with the highest mark in her final exam and a special mention for contemporary music interpretation. She also studied conducting with Felipe Vallesi.

She became the first Latin American conductor to win the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing (2009, Tours, France) and obtained the Grand Prize at the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition (2008, Debrecen, Hungary), where she also received the Best Conductor award. She has performed in major halls in Argentina (Teatro Colon Buenos Aires and others) and abroad (Spivey Hall in Atlanta, USA; Copenhagen Opera House in Denmark).

Silvana Vallesi has been invited to be a jury member in prestigious international competitions and worked as an active collaborator in several international choral conducting workshops, among those the Choral Conducting Master Classes in Marktoberdorf 2007. As part of her educational work, she has conducted the Choir of Students of the University of Mendoza since 1999 and in 2011, she created the Children's Choir of Los Olivos School and the Girls Choir of Portezuelo School in Mendoza as part of a project to highlight the role of choirs at school.

Her artistic activity has been highly recognized by specialized critics for her performance of contemporary music. As a result of her research on choral vanguards, she has carried out many experimental interdisciplinary works integrating choral contemporary repertoire with plastic arts and theatrical elements, an activity that she has been performing with the Cuban sculptor Jorge Zarrán since 1997, displaying numerous onstage actions, on many occasions with the Coro Universitario de Mendoza and VOXX IN SCENA, a chamber vocal group created for this purpose in 1996, offering first hearings of several unique contemporary musical works.
