Gudrun Schröfel (Jury Chairwoman)

Gudrun Schröfel completed her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover and embarked upon a concert and oratorio career. Beside that conducting had always been one of her major artistic interests. She supplemented her conservatoire training with conducting classes under Eric Ericson and studied orchestral conducting in various master classes. In 1985 she took on a professorship in Music Education at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen. In 1989 she moved to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, where she teaches Choral-and EnsembleConducting and vocal methods. Since 1997 she held the position of Vice President of the University in Hannover. Gudrun Schröfel has always believed in providing professional level training for children and adolescents. The quality of her ensemble is based on intense individual work with young voices, presenting the entire stylistic spectrum of the choral repertoire. These can be heard on various CDs, including several world premiere of works written for the Mädchenchor Hannover. Gudrun Schröfel has won many international competitions with this celebrated ensemble. Together they have been invited to perform all over Europe, in Japan, South America, Israel, China and in the USA. The A Cappella literature for mixed choir, Gudrun Schröfel explores with the Johannes Brahms Chor, an excellent mixed adult choir. Since 1994 Gudrun Schröfel has been invited to lecture at numerous international seminars for Choral Leadership training in Israel, the USA and Japan among others. She was guest conductor to the Landesjugendchor Rheinland-Pfalz and, in 2000, she worked with Frieder Bernius and the European Youth Choir. In 2001 she took the MädchenChor Hannover to the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf where they performed at the opening concert, and where she led the Choir leaders’ seminar together with Volker Hempfling. She won the „Niedersächsische Kunstpreis für Musik“ in 1998 and the „Verdienstkreuz Erste Klasse des Niedersächsischen Verdienstordens“ in 2004.
